Welcome to the Diocese of the Rio Grande Borderlands Deanery Website.

The Diocese of the Rio Grande was formed in 1952 by the General Convention of The Episcopal Church from the Missionary District of New Mexico and Southwest Texas.

The Diocese encompasses 154,000 square miles of the State of New Mexico and Far West Texas from the Pecos River to the border with Mexico along the Rio Grande.

The Rt. Rev. Michael Buerkel Hunn was elected Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande on May 5, 2018. He was ordained and consecrated Bishop on November 3, 2018, and serves as chief pastor for the 15,000 members of the congregations of the Diocese that comprises the 154,000 square miles of the Diocese. In order to spread awareness and build their network of supporters, Rio Grande Borderland Ministries is hosting an online community art fundraiser titled Canvas of Hope, which will take place virtually on May 1st, 2021.
The event will feature artists passionate about migration, including musical performances, poetry readings, artists talks, and a live silent auction. Canvas of Hope is currently accepting donations of paintings, printmaking, photography, drawings, prints, mixed media, and sculpture, now through March 19th, 2021.
